Large square tile, fritware with moulded decoration, glazed all over with monochrome turquoise glaze. There is a projecting upper border with a moulded inscription (probably from the Qur'an); the main part of the tile is divided into compartments by two pointed-trefoil niches. Small palmettes branch from this in the right and left corners, and the rest of the decoration consists of inscriptions. In the topmost lobe of each niche is the word 'Allah', meaning 'God', and the Shi'i prophet 'Ali is mentioned in the right hand niche. Made in Iran (probably Kashan), early 14th century.
