Object history

Production
The description in the accession registers attributes this plate to the Leeds Pottery, however Donald Towner suggests that 12 lobed dishes with alternating piercework and enamelling on the lobes are characteristic of Melbourne. Towner illustrates a covered bowl on a stand which resembles this object very closely as an example of Melbourne production (see Towner, D., Creamware, London: Faber & Faber, 1978, colour plate D)
