Plate of earthenware transfer-printed in underglaze colours and gilded. Shallow rimless shape with a recessed foot. Central medallion with a boy approaching a cottage door which stands open to show the family within. The name of the artist and date appear at the foot 'T. Webster 1834.'. Surrounding this is a broad band of marbled pattern in blue under a green glaze, simulating malachite. The reverse is plain except for the printed legend 'The Truant by T. Webster' which appears on the base.
