Object history | One of two plates with C.525A-1935. According to Fairbairn's Book of Crests the motto Virtus invecta gloriosa (Unconquered virtue is glorious) is the motto of the Thomas family. However, the crest for Thomas, Bart. of Wales (given there together with this motto) is a demi-unicorn and quite different from the one painted here. This crest does not appear in Fairbairn's book, and it may be that it was adopted rather than officially sanctioned by the College of Arms. |
