Materials and techniques
Black earthenware tile, white glaze, dust-pressed, sgraffito. The sgraffito technique is done when dry, the design is scratched through a white glaze to the biscuit beneath. In the case of the black and white tiles, they are tehn fired to 1060 degrees celsius.
Brief description
One of four tiles, dust-pressed black earthenware with painted sgraffito decoration, with white glaze, 'Swan' tile, a standing swan, industrially made blank, interlaced "CS" monogram bottom left, "PLATT FERROLITE ENGLAND" moulded on back. England, designed by Christina Sheppard in 1975, in production until 1985.
