One of three square tiles of leadglazed earthenware with white bodies and hand painted designs in basic pigments and coloured glazes, Marks: on each tile impressed 'H & R JOHNSON LTD / CRISTAL (in a shield) TRADE MARK / MADE IN ENGLAND', on this tile impressed 'M54 30' in a circle and 'D215' and '58' in a dotted circle and 'S 4' in a cirlce (this mark indecipherable). The design of this tile consists of two stylised musical instruments (a trombone and a tuba) in slate blue superimposed on two shapes, one round and the other rectangular, in pink enamel, on a white backgound. English (Kenneth Clark Pottery), 1980.
