Object history | Spring ball type of game; the object is to shoot the marbles around the loop until they fall into a bucket. The winner is the player who gains the greatest score trademark of Louis Marx - double circle with MADE IN ENGLAND within the space between the two circles; MAR is printed with a larger X inside the inner circle. |
Historical context | No. of Players: any Equipment required: marbles playing surface instructions original box, card printed in blue to show the title, maker and an illustrations Rules: A loop of tubing painted blue with a wooden handled spring at the bottom end. Suspended between the loop are 5 buckets, each of a different colour. The loop and buckets are supported above a rectangular base, painted green, red, yellow and black. On the base below each bucket is printed a score value, the rules and the maker's names and trademark Supplied with the game are marbles and all but the solid red plaster one (probably original) are glass:- 3 - blue and white; 4 turquoise and white; 2 - green and white; 4 - clear green; 1 - amber and white; 2 - brown and white; 1 - white and amber; 1 - red and white; 1 - clear red; one ½in diam, half amber, half white; 1 - clear but very scratched Marbles are housed in a circular pale blue tin with a woman's head illustration on the cover and McVITIE & PRICES BISCUITS FREE SAMPLE NO CHARGE printed on the base. |
