Place of origin

Furnishing fabric of woven wool and cotton. Towards either selvedge stands a figure of France dressed in white with red and yellow wings, and holding a laurel wreath in each outstretched hand. She stands on a globe resting on a lily from the stem of which are slung two shields with the tricolour and the cross of St George. On the buttresses of this tower, which is in half-drop repeat on the opposite sides of the cloth stands heralds of England and France blowing trumpets behind knights on heavy caparisoned horses. The English and French knights, one above the other, charge in opposite directions across the cloth approaching respectively a cock and a lion. White doves fly behind their backs.
