Dartex, The Thrilling New Card Game of Skill

Card Game
1938 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Popular games of the kind played in public houses have often been adapted to children's games, two examples being darts and shove ha'penny. This game, however, is rather sophisticated and may well have been devised for adults rather than children. The set has 38 cards showing a dart board with a score and 15 cards with amusing illustrations and directions for play. It is a good game to play to improve ones adding and subtracting skills.

Object history
It has the signature of R L Smith, Caryll House, Cranleigh, Surrey (see other games with this signature)
Popular games of the kind often played in public houses have been adapted as children's games - darts and shove ha'penny being just two examples. Such games are not always shown in the same manner and Dartex is rather sophisticated and may well have been devised for adults rather than children, although either could play. Certainly children would brush up their adding and subtracting skills.
