Object history
One of Terence Conran's first jobs was to work under the architect Dennis Lennon at the Festival of Britain. As a designer of textiles, Conran would have been aware of the work of the Festival Pattern Group who used the arrangement of atoms within substances to inspire pattern. It is possible that this pattern, with its microscopic study of material, was inspired by their approach.
