Bramble and Squirrel

Furnishing Fabric
ca. 1882 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Sample of printed velveteen. Printed in fawn, brown, yellow and green. The sample shows a full width from selvedge to selvedge. The design depicts squirrels feeding on nuts enclosed in circling briars with leaves and fruit. As the Century Guild were in the habit of incorporating their initials 'CG' into their designs it is likely that the encircling briars form these initials although this sample is too small to show this clearly.
