INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES FOR THE GAME OF IT'S A GOAL COPYRIGHT ENTERED AT STATIONERS' HALL

FOOTBALL LEAGUE CARD GAME
The game is for two or more players.
The pack consists of 44 cards, 22 each of First and Second divisions of the League.
The First Division has the top left hand corner of each card printed in red, the Second Division in blue.
The cards are pictures denoting players of all First and Second Divisions of the English League, and are printed in the club colours.
Players cut for deal; the one cutting Goalkeeper deals and leads. If no Goalkeeper is cut, the one cutting Full Back or Half Back takes precedence in that order. If two cut alike, First Division has preference over the Second.
When an even number of players, two sides should be selected. They should sit alternately when there are four or more players, each playing in turn.
Deal 6 cards each for two to four players - when five or six deal 5 cards each. Two packs should be used when more than six play, 6 cards being dealt to each.
For 2,4 or 6 players, the First and Second Divisioncards are kept separate, the original dealer or his side keeping the First Division throughout the game.
The balance of cards undealt are placed face downwards in two centre stacks, the First Division players drawing from their stack and the Second from the Second Division cards only.
When an odd number are playing, all the cards are shuffled together and dealt as stated, leaving one centre stack only face downwards, as in this case each player plays for himself.
The game consists in scoring points - the player or side first scoring three goals wins the round - the best of three rounds is the winner of the game.
If mutually agreed play can continue untilone player or side has won the best of three games.
Where a number appears in the corner of a card it represents the yards that player kicks the ball. This scoring card is placed face up before him. The next player either lays down a scoring card before himself or may play an obstruction card upon an opponent's card if able to do so.
An obstruction card can only be placed upon the last scoring card played by an opponent. In this case the two cards concerned are removed from play and placed at the bottom of their respective unexposed packs or pack.
the game continues until one player or side has a total of 120 or more yards when a goal is scored and the cards reshuffled and dealt by the pdlayer to the left of the previous dealer.
The object of each player whenin turn is to score a goal before an opponent, and skill is needed to decide whether to play a scoring card on own stack or an obstruction card upon an opponent.
Any player when in turn can, if he thinks it will be of advantage, pick a card from his unexposed stack and add it to those in hand. This counts as a complete turn and no card can be laid down until next in turn. An unexposed card can be taken in this manner instead of taking a free kick when playing an obstruction card upon an opponent's pack that awards a free kick.
SCORING CARDS
GOALKEEPER cannot score a goal. These cards can only be played when at least 60 yards or more short of goal.
PENALTY, there is one penalty card in each division. This card can only be played when not more than 30 yards from goal. This card scores a goal unless the player immediately following plays a Missed Penalty Obstruction card.
THE TEAM CARD, when playing as a team each side make one scoring row only and do not play or score individually.
OBSTRUCTION CARDS CANNOT BE PLAYED UPON AN OPPONENT UNLESS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE PLAY OF A SCORING CARD BY SUCH OPPONENT, FOR EXAMPLE, IF AFTER PLAYING A SCORING card the opponent has himself either played an Obstruction card or picked from the unexposed pack, the number of yards already gained cannot be reduced.
CANCEL KICK card cancels opponents last scoring card.
CANCEL OPPONENTS KICK AND TAKE FREE KICK card cancels opponents last scoring card and entitles the player to an extra turn.
