"Our Boys'" Compendium of Popular Games

Games Compendium
1910-1914 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This "Our Boys" Compendium of Popular Games was produced ca. 1910-1914 in England by the Chad Valley Company. It contains 12 games all of different types, and also comes with a wooden dice cup which can be used with the whole set.

The game of Scouting is part of the compendium, and is a combination of a moral race game and a strategy game. It is a version of Fox and Geese. The aim of the game is for one player, the dispatch runner, to take papers from the field officer at the top of the board to the camp at the bottom. He must avoid being captured or hemmed in by the Scout Patrol, which has been sent out to intercept the message.

Other games in the collection include Bogie Man, Aerial Derby, Royal Ludo, Race to the North, and Snakes and Ladders, to name but a few.
