Object history
There should be counters probably enough for 10 each as the players must put 4 into the pool and then could be required to pay out a total of 8 to the pool throughout the game. Note the use of sweets instead of counters.
Three of the corner illustrations show modes of travel, coach and horse, train and paddle steamer; the fourth shows a booking hall scene with passengers.

Rules:
A TRIP ON THE CONTINENT

Each player takes one of the figures or men which are used for marking the progress on the journey. The order of starting being ascertained each player has to pay 4 counters or sweets into the pool. The figures advance according to the number thrown with the die. The red numbers mark the obstacles and advantages mentioned below:

No. 13. Hurries to the station, but fails to catch the train; miss 2 turns.
No. 16. Took the wrong train, miss one turn.
No. 18. Took the wrong road; return to No. 7.
No. 24 Stops to see the scenery, miss 2 turns.
No. 25 Sees the sights of the town, miss 2 turns.
No. 28 Excursion on the river, miss 3 turns.
No. 30 Stop to feed the horses, miss 1 turn.
No. 33 Train left, miss 2 turns.
No.36 In time for the Express Train, proceed at once to 43.
No. 38 Attends to the corresponence and pay 3 counters into the pool for postage.
No. 40 On the right road, advance to 46.
No. 41 Wheel broken, miss 2 turns.
No. 45 Steamer goes wrong direction, go back to 43.
No. 48 Bridge collapsed, miss 2 turns.
No. 53 Stay at the Grand Hotel; miss 1 turn and pay 3 counters into the pool for hotel bill.
No. 55 Barrier closed, miss 1 turn.
No. 57 Shipwrecked. Saved and goes back to 50.
No. 60 Custom House; pay 2 counters into the pool for duty.
No. 62 Wrong road, back to 56.
No. 64 Railway accident, out of game.
No. 67 Takes boat to 70.
No. 73 Wrong road, goes back to 65.

The player who gets to No 75, centure picture, or beyond first, wins the game and takes the contents of the pool.
