Place of origin |
Furnishing fabric of plate-printed cotton in purple on an ochre-tinted ground. The elements shown are water (a boating scene), fire (a dramatic escape from a burning building), and air (the wind blowing away people's hats). Part of a scene showing apple-picking, presumably the fruits of the earth, appears at the foot of the panel. The romantic costume helps to date the panel which is signed by 'Cholet Sc. Nantes'.
