Furnishing Fabric

ca. 1926-1927 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Furnishing fabric of fine mid-blue silk warp with a coarser pale gold rayon weft forming a twill ground. The weft is shaded from deep orange at each end, through yellow, to a pale lemon at the centre. The design consists of two interlocking curves terminating in the centre in long points. These abstract devices issue from the bottom right and top left ends and selvedges. They have stripes running their length, shading from an outer deep orange through five orange/yellow hues to an inner pale lemon. The motifs are rather loosely brocaded. Mrs Lodge's monogram is woven in the centre under the lower curve.

The silks and rayons were dyed with aniline dyestuff.
