Object history | The print reproduces a reduced image of a painting by Johnson, commissioned by Cable & Wireless to mark Hong Kong's return to Chinese rule on 1st July 1997, at the end of the United Kingdom's 99 year lease. Related drawings for the painting are in the collection (E.219-230-1998). |
Production | Attribution note: The original painting is acrylic on canvas. Although it appears to be photographic, Johnson's painting is bulit up from a number of highly detailed drawings. The Hong Kong panorama took six years to produce. The print was made from aphotographic transparency of the painting using 18 screens. |
