It is rare for a complete set of palanquin fittings to survive from the Angkorian period. This set has a dramatic pair of rearing snake-head finials (nagas), ornate suspension hooks for securing the ropes of the carrying seat, and a series of rings with floral bosses which served both to strenghten and decorate the carrying pole. These rings are lined with sheet silver, suggesting that the carrying pole may have been sheathed in silver. Contemporary relief sculptures depict carrying seats of this type in use.

Khmer period
The hook is one of a pair from a set of palanquin fittings. It is
decorated with the head of a rearing water spirit. Cambodian
sculptural reliefs from this period show how the seat of a
palanquin was slung from ropes attached to hooks like this. The
carrying pole may have been sheathed in silver.
