The saint in fantastic Roman armour stands his left foot trampling on the face of the devil, shown as the winged figure of an old man , who lies in flames on the ground beneath him. On his left arm St. Michael carries a shield and in his right hand a thunderbolt. This type of composition is not uncommon in European Art towards the end of the seventeenth or the beginning of the eighteenth century.
