Carafe and stopper , wheel-cut, silvered and gilded Germany (Berlin), about 1882 possibly designed by Fritz Heckert, at Fritz Heckert's Petersdorfer Glashütte, Petersdorf, Silesia (162 &A-1883) Fritz Heckert specialised in glass like this which is imitating Indian damascened metalwork known as 'Bidri' ware, from the area in which it is made around Calcutta. These Indian wares had been shown at international exhibitions since 1851 and were much admired and copied in glass, first by J & L Lobmeyr, Vienna, in 1873. Heckert's shop was in Berlin, the glasshouse was in Petersdorf, Silesia .
Object history
Fritz Heckert specialised in glass like this which is imitating Indian damascened metalwork known as 'Bidri' ware, from the area in which it is made around Calcutta.
