Historical context
A nine-headed form of Bhairava, Siva's fearsome manifestation and an aspect of Yamataka, the destroyer of Death. He is considered a wrathful emanation of Manjusri who in this form conquered Yama (Death). The upper three heads are those of Manjusri. He wields his Tantric attributes in his multiple arms and animals, birds and demons serve as his vehicle.
