Decanter and stopper , 'Royal Purple' glass, gilt England (Bristol), about 1790-1800 probably made by Wadham Ricketts & Co. or Isaac Jacobs Gift of F. A. Lart, Esq. (C.203 &A-1921) A blue glass example with identical gilding illustrated by C Truman, English Glassware to 1900 (1984) pl.17, C.201 &A-1936, (not C750-1936 as stated). For discussion of these gilt decanters, see Cleo Witt et al., Bristol Glass (1984): a purple decanter signed Wadham Ricketts & Co and dated 1798 is illustrated, and mention is made of a Jacobs advertisement for dessert sets 'in burnished Gold upon Royal Purple'. .
