Palm leaf manuscript. Traditional Sinhalese manuscripts were prepared on the specially treated and trimmed leaves of the Talipot palm. The rounded forms of the Sinhalese script were incised into the folios with a metal style and the surface rubbed with an ink compound to highlight the letters. The protective wooden covers are carved with a scene of a festive procession lead by an elephant, probably the annual parade of the sacred Tooth Relic at Kandy.
