Lamp Deux Paons (two peacocks), the 'stopper' press moulded, the lamp mould-blown, with Bakelite base France, Bas-Rhin (Wingen-sur-Moder), designed 1920, available in the catalogues from 1928-47 designed by René Lalique, for Lalique glassworks (Verrerie d'Alsace) Gift of Handley-Read Colln. via T. Stainton (C.73 &A to B-1972) Lalique designed a number of lamps in this form, based on a perfume bottle. Each has a different motif as the subject of the stopper. Although in the less expensive clear glass, the sheer splendour of the design means that this is one of the most spectacular of his creations. The Bakelite base is moulded in the pattern known as 'Graines' (seeds) .
