Object history | Day was a manufacturer which had patented a method of making decorative items in moulded metal, such as vases, candlesticks or stands, in Gothic style. The Gothic style was championed by Pugin as the only truly Christian style and he illustrated a piece of Day's Patent ware in his 'True Principles of Pointed or Christian Architecture', published in 1841, as an example of the style applied to contemporary ornaments. The glass is also cut in a somewhat Gothic-like style. |
