Historical context
The theme of the offerimg is to be seen in the ornaments decorating this box. On the inner circle of the cover are symbols for each of the five senses; the bell (sound), the mirror (sight), two bowls with food and incense (taste and smell), and the strip of cloth (touch). On the lower section of the box are the Eight Auspicioous emblems of Buddhism.
