This terracotta bust, representing a friar, is made by an unknown artist, in Florence in the first half of the sixteenth century.
The bust was acquired as a portrait of Savonarola. The features have no resemblance to the medallic portraits of Savonarola, and it is possible that a Franciscan rather than a Dominican friar is shown.

Physical description | Bust in terracotta, modelled fully in the round, rests on a shallow base moulded in one with the upper part. The head is represented in full face, with tufts of hair above the forehead and behind the ears. Below is a Franciscan or Dominican habit. The bust is cut off at the base above the elbows and through the chest. |
