Place of origin |
This photograph by Chris McCaw (born 1971) of the sun's path through the sky was created using a long exposure during which the camera was pointed directly at the sun. The concentration of sunlight through the lens was so strong that it burned through the negative, creating a scorched gash in the paper. This innovative technique pushes to an extreme one of the most basic elements of photography: the effect of light on sensitised paper.
