Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Kimono for a child, made from ramie (bast fibre). It is of the usual kimono cut except that there is a vertical tuck at shoulder level both sides, and the sleeves taper towards the wrist, the extra fabric beingretained on the inside. The garment has side and underarm vents. There is a reinforcing lining of cream cotton at back seat level and across the top of the shoulders. A band of cotton also runs all the way round the inside of the collar band. The kimono is secured at waist level with two striped cotton ties.
There is an all-over geometric design in brown produced by the kasuri technique. The background is the natural cream tone of the ramie.
