Candlestick

1795-1796 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Candlesticks were made in a great variety of shapes, sizes and styles with bases being circular, square or polygonal. The decoration is very varied, with some having cast ornaments or decoration of engraving or chasing. The earliest examples were made from sheet metal, with a hollow stem and a single vertical soldered seam; later ones were made by casting and still later by stamping (in sections soldered together and loaded to provide stability). Often they were made as a pair or a set of four or more.
