Die Casting and group of 12 contact prints
1954

Contact prints are small reference images printed at the same size from contact with the negative. They allow the photographer to view all of the images together and make selections quickly. Looking at Broomfield’s contacts reveals how he refined an idea, approaching a subject with varying angles and lighting. Reflecting on these images of die casting, Broomfield noted: ‘There is always something special when recording a craft that is steeped
in history.’
