Gense, an abbrevation of Gustaf Eriksson NySilverfabriken in Eskilstuna, is one of the leading cutlers in Europe. The company was founded in 1856, and has been making cutlery since the 1920s. Much of its present cutlery is reminiscent of its earlier models. The Danish branch of Gense traces its roots back to 1838 and the famous company Andersen & Burchart and later on the famous silversmith Carl M. Cohr and his magnificient silverware. Hence, timeless design, elegance and high quality materials and finish are the hallmarks of Gense.
The head office of Gense is located in Eskilstuna, Sweden and the company has subsidiaries in Denmark, Finland, Belgium and France. The high-quality products of Gense are produced in their own plants in Eskilstuna, Gembloux, Tallinn and Turku. Gense has been a part of the K.A.Rasmussen Group since 1995.

Physical description | Pair of salad servers. Stainless steel with black nylon sheathed handles. The salad fork has a tapered handle swelling at the centre and terminates in an oval bowl with three tines, the centre one arched, the outer two pointed. The salad spoon with a similar handle, terminating in a rectangular bowl with sloping sides and rounded corners. |

Object history | This pair of salad servers is part of the Focus de Luxe range. This range of cutlery was introduced at the H55 exhibition in Helsingborg, Sweden in 1955. It won a Gold Medal at the California State Fair that same year. The designer of the award winning Focus De Luxe, Folke Arström, 1907-1997, belonged to the first generation of young Swedish industrial designers. He was a painter, silversmith and cutlery designer. He designed silver and tin for Guldsmedaktiebolaget/GAB in the period 1936-1940. From 1940 and the next twenty years he worked as artistic director at GENSE. |
