Object history
Registered File number 1994/1257, Streetstyle exhibition 1994-1995, in the exhibition it was part of an outfit called "Ravers/'Madchester' UK 1987-8" (includes the jeans T.257-1994, the boots T.539-1994 and the T-shirt T.1-1995).

This outfit is a 1994 equivalent of what was worn in 1987-1988.
Historical context
The Northern Rave/Madchester look was centred in and around Manchester and Liverpool. Its followers steered away from the football terraces and into clubs such as the Hacienda. Their style was cheeky, baggy and andrognyous, including amusing T-shirts printed with puns on well-known trademarks. Mancunian clothing companies such as Joe Bloggs became synonymous with the Madchester look.
