Object history | Registered File number 1994/670, Streetstyle exhibition 1994-1995, in the exhibition it was part of an outfit called 'Preppy USA' (includes the jacket T.258-1994, the trousers T.259-1994 and the tie T.478-1997). Worn and given by John Simon to complete the man's Preppy Outfit of the 1950s for the Street Style exhibition. Though these shoes are late 70s, they reflect their 50s counterparts. "Preppy style was casual, sporty, wholesome and clean cut. Blazers, with natural shoulders, three buttons and straight cut pocket flaps were worn with untapered shirts with button-down collars. Trousers were always cut straight with narrow turn-ups." |
