Object history
Registered File number 1994/1948, Streetstyle exhibition 1994-1995, in the exhibition it was part of an outfit called 'Preppy USA Early 1980s' (includes the jacket T.968-1994, the shirt T.969-1994, the jumper T970-1994 and the skirt T.971-1994).

Part of a woman's outfit representing a look worn by Preps in the USA in the early 80s. This outfit was put together by Katrina Beatty for the Streetstyle exhibition held at the Museum in 1994-95.

'The distinctive preppy collegiate blazer and button-down shirt is worn by both sexes, but women's garments are often in bright or pastel colours, such as the pink shirt seen here. Preppy women announced their femininity by the traditional, well-tried formula of round-necked cardigan and full skirt. The emphasis is upon fine-quality clothes, classic styling and meticulous colour co-ordination. Stick-pins became fashionable Preppy accessories during the late 1970s and early 1980s.'
