Gallery label | The patchwork impression of the design makes this a suitable material for a western-style bedcover and there is nothing specifically Chinese about the way the quilt is made up. Traditionally, Chinese padded bedcovers had a broad border around the edge and, in modern times, this border is usually a different and plain coloured cloth. It has been suggested that Sir John Addis used these quilts in the private quarters of his residence in Beijing and elsewhere. |
