'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900'

From about 1820 Baccarat was the largest and one of the most important glassworks in France producing a wide range of fine glassware, decorative and useful. The company exhibited coloured and cut glass with success at the international exhibitions held in Paris in 1855 and 1867, where they obtained the Grand Medal of Honour. This example is said to have been bought by H.L. Florence from Théodore Deck. The glass is cut in the manner of Chinese rock crystal carvings with pheasants and pine branches in Japanese and Chinese taste.
