Place of origin |
Woven silk and metal thread with upper panel of woven silk, backed with plain weave cotton and faced with woven silk, with added border of woven silk and metal thread.
The upper panel is plain weave silk with red warp and yellow weft.
Seamed vertically in the left hand part. The main fabric has diagonal stripes running from the lower right to the upper left. There are two sizes of stripe with a metal thread ground [silver strip open S-wound on yellow silk core] divided by narrow chevrons in pink and metal thread. The narrow stripes have vertical stems with green leaves at their base and three pink flowers. The wide stripes have three diamond shaped motifs:
[1] large pink rose;
[2] iris surrounded by small white flowerheads;
[3] small pink flowers with small blue flowers around it.
There is a bias cut border on three sides which is very worn. It has a meander linking a blue flower and pink flowers and a spray of three small buds. There is slight evidence of metal thread in the ground. The seam between the two is covered with 3 black silk cords couched at intervals with metal thread.
Backing: green cotton with areas of light blue where the yellow dye has been bleached.
Facing: bias cut black silk.
