Plaque of blue jasperware with white relief decoration of the Marriage of Cupid and Psyche, oval in shape and in a gilt metal frame. Cupid, holding a dove, and Psyche are represented as children. Psyche is veiled and preceded by two winged boys, one holding a torch and the other preparing a bed, and followed by another who holds up a cradle filled with fruits.

Object history | Companion piece to 414:1279/A-1885 (Sch. II 491). After an Italian cameo of the 16th century, formerly in the Duke of Marlborough's collection at Blenheim. The relief is of the highly vitrified glossy body known as 'waxen jasper'. Gilt frame is of a later date. |
