Historical context
For the many customers of the 1950s who craved the monumentality of pre-war furniture, the Stag Cabinet Co. designed its 'A' range of bedroom furniture, a set 'of interchangeable pieces from which you may select those most suited to your own particular needs and be assured that each piece will blend happily with its neighbour'. Its curved forms being softened and lightened version of the Moderne style of the 1930s. Clear post-war touches are the handles and the characteristically 1950s shape of the mirror. When the 'A' range was finally launched in 1955 this design, with its daringly 'streamlined' recessed top, was not adopted and nor were the handles.
