Gallery label | Naglaa Walker's work is concerned with institutional places and their dual function as sites that both constrain and enable people. Her empty lecture theatres are seen from both the teachers' and the students' points of view. They imply the mutually dependent transactions of teaching and learning and of individual and collective behaviour. The wiped clean black board is the focus of the ritual and performance, hinting at ideas of mystification in the transfer of knowledge.(2008-2009) |
