This saddle and horse trappings would have been used in the betrothal procession of a child in India. The wooden saddle tree has gilt copper mounts and lotus bud pommel with a green velvet padded seat while the leather headstall, reins, crupper and straps are covered with square metal plates.

Physical description
Leather saddle with trappings, metal fittings and accoutrements, used in the betrothal procession of a child in India, in all 5 pieces.
Object history
These object were previously on loan to the V&A. The original loan agreement was signed in November 1868 with original owner Sir Bartle Frere. All attempts to locate the lender (his family) have failed.
