FLOWER POT STAND Alexis du Tremble Manufacturer France (Rubelles): about 1851 Moulded earthenware with green glaze 5453-1858 Decoration à émail ombrant was patented by Baron Bourgoing in 1836, when the Rubelles factory was founded at the chateau of his associate, Le Baron du Tremble. Bourgoing (died 1866) combined life as an ambassador with research into the industrial arts, maintaining a laboratory next to his bedroom in case of sleeplessness. Until its closure in 1858, the factory produced a wide range of household pottery and tiles decorated in this technique. At the 1851 exhibition it earned a silver medal and a commendation for "cheapness, novel and agreeable effect".
