Man's banyan of pink silk satin brocaded with green and cream in a pattern of wide intertwined bands of decoration and large floral motifs, lined with linen block-printed with red and black in an all-over black-printed trailing vine and floral design inspired by Indian chintz. The banyan has a ¾ inch (1.8 cm) standing collar, curving, set-in, 2-piece sleeves reaching to the wrist with vertical openings and shaped cuffs. The banyan is fitted to the torso with wide skirts below the waist, with openings in the side seams to reach pockets in garments underneath. It is double-breasted with 10 worked buttonholes and 10 self-covered buttons, arranged in pairs, on each side at centre front.

Bought with a collection of about 1000 textiles for £700: the Forrer Collection. This robe was found in Belgium.
