Object history
Registered File number 1993/1501, Streetstyle exhibition 1994-1995, in the exhibition it was part of an outfit called 'Rockabilly UK early 1980s' (includes the blouse T.489-1993, the shoes T.491-1993 and the bra T.730-1994).

This outfit represents a wear of vintage clothes in a later context; all elements of outfit are 1950s, but assemblage represents a 1980 juxtaposition - or at least, a 1996 idea of a 1980 juxtaposition of 1950s vintage clothing.)

"Female Rockabillies went to great lengths to achieve an authentic 1950s American teenage appearance by scouring specialist second-hand shops. This look captured the naivety and the optimism of young, post-war America. Quiffed and ponytail hairstyles and heavy make-up made the look distinctively Rockabilly."
