Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Jug of lead-glazed earthenware and painted in overglaze enamels, and moulded in the form of a bearded and red-faced satyr's head, with a round pedestal base. The head is crowned with vine-leaves and grapes, and the mouth of the jug has a wavy rim, outlined in brown and moulded at the lip with the head of a sailor in a black hat between two goat's heads in low relief. The upper part of the handle rises above the rim and is moulded with the half-figure of a sailor in a blue coat resting on a barrel and holding a bottle in his arms. Blue cord round the neck of the jug, and a wreath of vine round the stem of the foot is painted with bands of black and brown.
