This parka was originally made as standard US Army issue in the early 1950s. In the 1960s, members of the Mod movement purchased parkas from Army surplus stores for their own personal use. These coats were lightweight, warm, and affordable, and were worn while riding one's scooter to protect the wearer from the weather.
