This ten-panel screen is painted on paper mounted on silk. It consists of a vibrant series of flower-and-bird scenes, with pairs of birds, butterflies and deer depicted in a folk art idiom. The paired creatures symbolise a happy, faithful marriage, whereas the flowers (prunus, magnolia, lotus and chrysanthemum) represent the four seasons. The screen was probably used in the women's quarters of a late-19th-century Korean home.
