ca. 1750-1755 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A coastal landscape showing (from the left) a shepherd and companion with sheep, a cutter, a merchant ship with behind it a ship-of-the-line, another ship-of-the-line sailing directly away from the viewer, a ship backing her sails (which may be a 5th rate warship), a lighthouse in the foreground and a fortified town in the background with a prominent church and a domed building, a bridge to a hamlet with a church, and a warship sailing away which seems to be too small to be a ship-of-the-line. All the decoration is in blue. Buff body colour, bluish glaze. The surface is uneven and the back is unglazed.
