Posset pot of tin-glazed earthenware, painted. Two entwined snakes are attached to each of the handles and another crawls up the spout. The feet of the pot are in the form of three birds with outstretched wings. Three oval panels contain Chinese figures in oriental landscapes. The two flanking the spout are also inscribed A.M. 1697. Two further panels contain birds seated in leafy branches. the rest of the decoration is floral and geometric with oriental classic scrolls on the spout. All the decoration is in blue. Body colour: Buff.
Condition: All the snakes have lost their heads. Glaze: White.
Shape: The handles are made of two joined rolls of clay. (Alphabetic shape codes as used in appendix to Archer. Delftware. 1997)
